Hartalega Strives for Best Practices with Safety & Health Campaign

A two-week Safety and Health Awareness Campaign was launched to instil safety awareness among the employees, steering towards ‘zero accidents’ at the workplace while also highlighting the importance of road safety.

Hartalega launched a two-week Safety and Health Awareness Campaign in January 2016, in line with the Group’s passion towards making a positive impact on its surrounding community.

At the launch of the campaign, Mr Kuan Mun Leong, Managing Director of Hartalega said, “As a responsible organisation, we prioritise the health and safety of our workforce. Based on the slogan of this campaign, ‘Work Safely, Go Home Safely’, we strive to highlight not just the importance of prioritising safety at work, but also ensuring that all our employees, also known as ‘Hartanians’, practise positive road safety habits. Through campaigns such as this, we are certain that ‘Hartanians’ will be better able to embrace health and safety at all times.”

The campaign which was held from January 21 to February 5, 2016 saw 1,400 participants from all levels of management and operational staff. Special guests from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Department of Environment (DOE), National Institute of Occupational Safety & Health (NIOSH), SOCSO, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Agensi Anti Dadah Kebangsaan (AADK), Pejabat Kesihatan Kuala Selangor, DC Hygiene, National Kidney Foundation (NKF) and 3M also attended the event.

In line with the campaign slogan, “Work Safely, Go Home Safely”, the aim of the campaign was to instil safety awareness among the employees, steering towards ‘zero accidents’ at the workplace while also highlighting the importance of road safety.

The participants clearly enjoyed themselves as they took part in fun and interactive activities, including “Safety Poster Drawing”, “Chemical Spillage” and “Mini Marathon” competitions. There were also talks and activities such as the ‘Road Safety Talk’ by PDRM & SOCSO and ‘Internal Fire Fighting Training at Hostels and Plants’ by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department.

In addition, exhibition booths set up by DOSH, DOE, NIOSH, 3M and several others elaborated on the dangers of drugs, the prevention of workplace accidents, the importance of maintaining personal hygiene as well as the types of personal protective equipment available to protect workers from workplace hazards.

During the campaign, the Plant 4 Production Team was awarded “Overall Safety Champion Award” for their excellent record in maintaining safety in Plant 4. The team was clearly thrilled as they went on stage to receive their trophy and certificate.

Plant 4 Assistant Manager, Abdul Latif, said, “We were delighted that our plant had won the ‘Overall Safety Champion Award’, reflecting that our efforts in practising safety at work have paid off. This campaign is truly enlightening as it reminds us to always look out for the health and safety of not just ourselves, but also for our colleagues and loved ones. The various activities were certainly informative and eye-opening.”

During the closing of the campaign, Mr Hakimi Tan, Manufacturing Director of Hartalega emphasised the importance of road safety. All drivers and motorists in Bestari Jaya were issued Car and Motorbike stickers bearing the slogan, “No More Victims on the Road”, as a pledge to drive and ride safely.
