Running for Charity
Hartalega has been an active KL Rat Race participant since 2011. Organised by The Edge Communications Sdn Bhd, The Kuala Lumpur Rat Race® is loosely based on the Carey Wall St Rat Race in New York, which calls upon Corporate Malaysia to don running shoes for charity. The funds raised from The Kuala Lumpur Rat Race® is distributed via The Edge’s foundation arm, The Edge Education Foundation.
Since inception, Hartalega has placed great emphasis on enhancing the lives of the community through education. Providing education assistance to disadvantaged families and providing financial aid to a number of educational institutions remains a huge priority as Hartalega believes that only through nurturing our nation’s young minds can we pave the way for a brighter future.
This initiative is also reflected in Hartalega’s latest expansion, the Next Generation Integrated Glove Manufacturing Complex (NGC). The NGC comprises a 20,000 sq ft Talent Development & Learning Centre, which was built not only for staff learning, but with community development in mind. Plans for internship programmes and subsidised vocational training to the community are part of the many focused activities, which aspires to bring new hopes and dreams to the community by enriching their lives through education.
To date, Hartalega has donated an annual minimum sum of RM18,000 to the Kuala Lumpur Rate Race. 50% of the funds raised will be divided among the selected beneficiaries for education and/or training projects/programmes. The remaining 50% will be used to fund The Edge Education Foundation’s Promotion of English and Financial Literacy programs.
As the Hartalega team ran in support of education for the less fortunate, they believe the race also helped build strong team rapport and a healthy lifestyle. Running for a cause beyond ourselves makes the run ever more meaningful with a fuelled sense of purpose.
